A few more trees and leaves

This sweetgum has an enormous hole in the bottom part of its trunk.

It also has this hole in the upper part of its trunk.

Somehow, it's still alive.

Sign of a beaver? 

Wolf's milk fungus...later

Earlier I put up a picture of a pink Wolf's Milk (Lycogala epidendrum) fungus:

 

 

...this is what it looks like later in its development.

Surprise

Walking along Red Lion road the other day, I came across this praying mantis that was surprisingly cooperative when I took its picture. It was so still that I touched it and discovered it was dead and stuck to the road. Looking at the pictures again, I think it wasn't dead after all, but molting.

No frogs at the ferry landing tonight

I guess it finally got too cold.

Are these woodpecker holes?
