Blue stump, Day One; a still stream; many mushrooms; trees to identify

On Thursday, October 3rd, at Lums Pond, a group of volunteer coordinators from different state parks (and one intern) learned about invasive plant removal. Kate and Kristen from Environmental Stewardship showed us how to cut down some Autumn Olive. When we were done, they painted some blue herbicide on the stumps. I decided to come back to one stump and keep up with what happens around it for the next year or so.
24 hours after cutting/herbicide application. You can see some cut AO branches on the left.
Opposite the blue stumplet (behind me when I'm taking pictures) is this tree with shelf fungus.

I spent some time after I checked on the stump sitting by this stream. There are some obvious differences between it and Red Clay Creek, where we did the aquatic ecology field trip.

For one thing, it's not moving. The only disturbance was the falling of leaves onto the surface of the water.
